Dating a Gibson by Factory Order Number (FON) Some earlier lower-end. Gibson's Kalamazoo plant continued to use the 6 digit serial numbers through 1978. Find the manufacture date by cross-referencing the serial number with. The brand (G for Gibson, K for Kalamazoo, W for Recording King).
All original parts, no breaks, cracks, or repairs.
Made October 17, 1979 in Kalamazoo, MI.
Kalamazoo manufacture is determined by last three digits of serial number and vertical Made in USA stamp.
Body - Solid mahogany, non-pancake body with maple top.
The finish is in excellent condition with only light swirl marks from usage on the top and typical worming on the back.
Neck - Plays fast with low action. Straight and in excellent shape with a small ding a few inches above the heel (see photo). The original frets are in great shape and are typical wide and low of the era with no dead spots. There is a small mark (scratch?) on the 5th fret inlay (see photo).
It is stamped Second for some cosmetic flaw, but after 40 yrs it is impossible to tell what it may have been.
Electronics and T-top pickups work as they should.
Hardware - shows moderate wear and oxidation.
I received the guitar with Schaller strap locks installed but original strap buttons are included. There is an extra screw which may be original, do not know the originality of screws installed with the locks.
Case - original chainsaw case with red lining. All latches work, small part of lining pulling away on left side of headstock (see photo), and the fabric tether has separated from the bottom side (see photo).
Weight: 10.8 lbs
